ONREP workshops are offered at NO cost to Oregon educators through external funding that covers all materials, fees, and instruction costs, unless otherwise noted. Registration is required for all workshops.

Scheduled Workshops

Join us on Zoom two Thursday afternoons to experience and explore nature journaling, a flexible, engaging, and adaptable teaching tool that helps students develop both scientific and social-emotional competencies. We will utilize How to Teach Nature Journaling, by John Muir Laws and Emily Lygren, available online as a free pdf.

In this workshop teachers will gain foundational understandings of fire ecology in Oregon, Indigenous use of fire, and current social-cultural impacts. Participants will hear perspectives from an Indigenous Cultural Fire Practitioner, and will get a sneak peek at a few of the lessons in the curriculum "Fire Ecology and the Human Relationship".

Join us for a rich and diverse 2-days of training in comprehensive fire science, fire safety, ecology, smoke, and community resilience curricula to use with your students! Participants will receive hands-on training with individual activities and field experiences, and we will share how to embed Indigenous Traditional Knowledge (ITEK) and a trauma informed approach into your teaching.

Whether you're introducing students to nature-based careers or expanding their understanding of the green economy, this workshop will leave you with the tools and inspiration to bring forestry careers to your students in engaging and meaningful ways. The day includes a field trip to one of Weyerhaeuser’s local tree nurseries. Participants receive 2 Project Learning Tree guides - Green Jobs: Exploring Forest Careers curriculum and The Journeys of Black Professionals in Green Careers.

Using the Growing Up WILD curriculum, we’ll explore the reasons why environmental education doesn’t end at the door and ways to extend it into the classroom or learning setting. Participants receive their choice of a print copy of the Growing Up WILD guide in English or Spanish. This workshop qualifies for Oregon Registry Online (ORO) professional learning credit.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to create dynamic, interdisciplinary lessons that make science an integral part of your students' learning experience. Using engaging, hands-on activities from Project Learning Tree, we’ll demonstrate how science can serve as a thread that connects and enhances core subjects like math, language arts, and social studies.

Growing Up WILD is now available in Spanish!

Project WILD's Creciendo WILD guide is written entirely in Spanish. Creciendo WILD is an early childhood education program that builds on children’s sense of wonder about nature and invites them to explore wildlife and the world around them. Through a wide range of activities and experiences, Creciendo WILD provides an early foundation for developing positive impressions about nature and lifelong social and academic skills.

Oregon Natural Resources Education Program (ONREP) is the state sponsor for Project WILD in Oregon. We frequently feature Project WILD’s Growing UP WILD guide and activities in ONREP workshops. We look forward to offering Creciendo WILD at ONREP workshops.

The 2024 Honoring Our Rivers Anthology of student art and creative writing selections has just been released as a digital flipbook! 

Youth and teachers, you can plan to enter in 2025! Entry by April 30, 2025.  

Teacher Workshop: Field Studies in the Bahamas

Date: June 28 - July 3, 2025

Location: Forfar Field Station, Andros Island, The Bahamas 

Cost: FREE! Participants will be responsible for the cost of transportation (airfare) to and from the Field Station.

This workshop will provide teachers with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to conduct field studies and incorporate meaningful travel experiences into their teaching and learning practices.

They are welcoming teachers that are new to Forfar Field Station or new to offering field studies experiences for their students.
