Description: Join us for an immersive workshop at Yakona Nature Preserve, guided by a published illustrator, ecologist, and professor of science communication. During this workshop, we will delve into the intersection of art and ecology using the most fundamental tool of science: an illustrated field notebook. You'll explore techniques to think like a scientist, sparking curiosity through words, pictures, observations, and discovery.
You’ll have the opportunity to reflect on strategies for applying these skills in your learning spaces, helping you build confidence to inspire your students to explore the natural world, wherever they live. We’ll also spend time outdoors, hiking through Yakona Nature Preserve.
Considerations: This workshop includes a two-mile hike that traverses mostly hilly terrain and an elevation loss/gain of 250-300 feet.
Brought to you by: Yakona Nature Preserve & Learning Center and Oregon Natural Resource Education Program (ONREP)
Registration required and may close approximately one week prior to the workshop. Offered at no cost to Oregon educators. PDUs available. Substitute reimbursement available on teacher work days.
