Global Change & Outdoor Education Series - Online

This is a series focusing on how to frame global change topics (such as climate change, extreme weather patterns, natural disasters, etc.) with students in an outdoor education context. This series will provide middle school and high school formal and nonformal educators with an opportunity to explore strategies, tools, and tips that they can draw on when working with students.

We encourage educators to attend as many of the sessions as they would like, each session will focus on a different topic.

This series is brought to you by: OSU Extension Service - Outdoor School Program and Oregon Natural Resources Education Program (ONREP)

Audience: Middle School and High School formal and nonformal educators

Session 3 - Developing climate change lessons and curriculum: Where do we start?

Date: May 4th, 2022

Time: 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Format & Length: Online, 1.5 hours

Description: There is more to learn about climate change than we could ever address in our programs/classrooms. How do we decide what to include, and how can we frame our approach? In this short session, we welcome outdoor educator, Karly Foster, to share her experiences developing a place-based climate change curriculum for use in Oregon. Together, we will reflect on and discuss how to set priorities, include multiple perspectives, and engage youth in learning about climate change in Oregon in ways that are meaningful to them.

Registration required. Offered at no cost to formal and nonformal Oregon educators. PDUs available. Substitute reimbursement available on teacher workdays.
