Audience: Designed for science and social studies educators & geared towards 4th - 8th grade educators, formal and nonformal, but all educators are welcome Curriculum and Resources provided: Project Learning Tree’s (PLT) Explore Your Environment K-8 Activity Guide Ricky’s Atlas Mapping a Land on Fire Center for Geography Education in Oregon (C-Geo) Student Atlas of Oregon Description: Join us for a multi-day immersive workshop at the stunning Fish Lake Remount Depot, nestled deep in the Willamette National Forest. Designed for science and social studies educators, this experience will unravel the evolving relationship between humans and fire—from Indigenous land stewardship and early Oregon settlers to Forest Service mule packers, fire lookouts, and today’s wildfire management. Through hands-on exploration of the region’s natural and cultural history, gain valuable insights and resources to bring this dynamic story of fire into your classroom. Don't miss this opportunity to learn, connect, and explore in one of Oregon’s most historic landscapes! Workshop highlights include: Multi-day immersion in pristine nature site, accommodation options are the on-site ADA accessible bunk house, or you may bring your own tent or RV Welcome BBQ Field trips to sites affected by fire Guest speakers Curriculum and activities to share with your students Work sessions to make the information you gained in the workshop applicable to your students and your locations across Oregon Cost: We ask that participants contribute a nominal fee of $25 to help us offset the cost of this overnight, multi-day workshop.
