Format: Online, 2 sessions, 5 hours total

Audience: Intended for Southern Oregon Formal and nonformal educators who work with students who have been directly impacted by fire

Description: 

This workshop will introduce participants to the Southern Oregon Fire Ecology Education (SOFEE) K-12 curriculum while highlighting a trauma-informed approach that can be applied in any learning environment. 

  • In the first session, SOFEE has invited trauma-informed care expert Bob Lieberman to present on the neurobiology of trauma including the trauma of natural disasters such as wildfire, and present data about seemingly simple things we can do in the educational realm that build resilience. 

  • In the second session, participants will learn about trauma-informed care tools and strategies that can be embedded in educational settings and practice applying them using SOFEE’s fire ecology curriculum as a starting point.

This workshop is co-hosted by Southern Oregon Fire Ecology Education (SOFEE). 

Registration required. Offered at no cost to formal and nonformal Oregon educators. PDUs available. Substitute reimbursement available.
